Q: Why do full-text and AI results sometimes feel inconsistent?
A: They’re different systems. Full-text looks for exact matches, while the AI Overview summarizes your search input. Use both together for best results.
Q: How is AI Chat different from Search?
A: Search finds exact matches, while AI Chat summarizes and interprets across multiple documents.
Q: Does AI Chat remember past conversations?
A: Yes. Chats appear on your homepage under Chat History, as well as through a list int he AI Chat tool itself. This way you can return to them later.
Q: Can I filter proposals by "tag" such as discipline, sector, or client when searching?
A: Not yet. Today, the best way to find proposals is by using AI chat or full-text search in your Proposal Library. Just type what you’re looking for in plain English, and Shred will surface relevant passages and documents.
For example, you can search for:
“Healthcare proposals submitted to ABC Corp”
“Proposals led by our Transportation division”
“Projects in California with design-build delivery”
Shred will return the closest matches from your uploaded proposals, even if you don’t have a formal tagging system in place.

Q: Can I upload Word or PowerPoint files?
A: Not yet. Only PDFs are supported. If needed, export your file to PDF before uploading.
Q: Can I upload multiple proposals at once?
A: Yes, bulk uploads are supported. Each file should still represent one proposal.
Q: Why is my upload stuck on “Processing”?
A: Large files may take longer. If it doesn’t complete, please reach out to our support team through the in-app chat or by emailing support@openasset.com.
Q: What if I uploaded the wrong file?
A: You can delete a proposal at any time. You can do this by clicking on the Vertical 3-dotted options menu on a specific proposal, then clicking “Delete proposal.”
Q: How long should processing take?
A: Most proposals process in under 5 minutes. Larger files may take longer.
Q: Can I use Search or AI Chat while uploads are processing?
A: Yes, but the new proposals won’t appear in results until ingestion is complete.
Q: What if two proposals have the same name but different content?
A: Shred.ai checks the file content, not just the file name, so it will allow both if the text differs.
Q: Can I override the duplicate warning?
A: No. Duplicates are blocked to protect library integrity.
Q: Can I edit a proposal PDF inside Shred.ai?
A: No. PDFs can be viewed but not edited. Use the Edit Proposal Details option to edit the proposal metadata such as Client name, proposal name, submitted date, or status.
Q: Can I download proposals from Shred.ai?
A: Yes, you can download the original PDF if needed directly out of Shred.ai. To do so, click on the specific proposal, then click the “download” button on the top-right hand of the PDF.
Q: Can I delete multiple proposals at once?
A: Not yet. Deletions are one at a time.
Q: What happens if I delete a proposal linked to a Pursuit?
A: The proposal is removed from the library but the Pursuit remains.
Q: Can deleted proposals be restored?
A: Yes. Contact OpenAsset support to restore a deleted file.
